14th Annual Winter Program and Silent Auction

12:00 pm, Mon December 5, 2011 –

Fight cabin fever by coming out to support Stone Lab! The Friends of Stone Laboratory (FOSL) and Ohio Sea Grant’s 14th Annual Winter Program and Silent Auction will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. January 24, 2012, at the Longaberger Alumni House, 2200 Olentangy River Road on Ohio State University’s main campus.

Through the summer, Lake Erie’s harmful algal blooms have been in the news. Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab Director Dr. Jeff Reutter will present "Harmful Algal Blooms in Lake Erie and Ohio: Causes, Solutions, and the Outlook for 2012." Reutter led the writing of a report in June that combined findings from 15 scientists studying the nutrient phosphorus and its effect on algal blooms.

Stone Lab has seen a tremendous amount of renovations this year. Lab Manager Matt Thomas will speak about the renovation that has been completed and what is still planned, including solar and thermal power.

All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit Stone Lab’s programs and scholarships. A catalog of auction items will be available here in early January.

This year FOSL will award door prizes to registered college students*. In addition to our regular Stone Lab merchandise, at the end of the evening, FOSL will award one scholarship covering room and meals for one week at Stone Lab (approximately a $350 value). These prizes are open only to registered college students in any college or university, but students must be present to win.

Seating is limited, so please RSVP using the form below or call 614.292.8949.

The Winter Program is sponsored by FOSL and supported in part by the John H. Dunlap, Jr. Fund for Education, Outreach, and Development at Stone Laboratory.
