June 28 Stone Lab Guest Lecture Features Great Lakes Observing System, The Nature Conservancy

11:15 am, Tue June 26, 2018 – Stone Lab’s annual Guest Lecture Series features speakers from Ohio universities, non-profit organizations, governmental agencies and private consulting firms

Gibraltar Island Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab, The Ohio State University’s island campus on Lake Erie, are hosting Great Lakes Observing System (GLOS) Executive Director Kelli Page for Stone Lab’s June 28 Guest Lecture. Page will present “Supporting a SMART Lake Erie” at 8 p.m. GLOS makes real-time and historical Great Lakes data available to the Great Lakes community to benefit decision makers, researchers and the public.

The evening will start with a research brief at 7 p.m., where Dr. Jessica D’Ambrosio, Western Lake Erie Project Director for The Nature Conservancy in Ohio, will talk about the 4R nutrient management program and how The Nature Conservancy helps Ohio farmers balance agriculture needs with protecting the environment and finding solutions to Lake Erie algal blooms.

Stone Lab’s annual Guest Lecture Series features speakers from Ohio universities, non-profit organizations, governmental agencies and private consulting firms, all covering topics related to the Lake Erie environment.

Members of the public are invited to see the lecture series live at Stone Lab on Gibraltar Island, or to tune into the live stream online. A recorded video will also be made available the next day. Information on all viewing options is available at go.osu.edu/stonelablectures.

Located on the 6.5-acre Gibraltar Island in Put-in-Bay harbor, Stone Laboratory is Ohio State’s island campus on Lake Erie and the research, education, and outreach facility of the Ohio Sea Grant College Program. Established in 1895, Stone Laboratory is the oldest freshwater biological field station in the United States and the center of The Ohio State University’s teaching and research on Lake Erie. Stone Lab offers 25 college-credit science courses each summer for undergraduate and graduate students, advanced high school students, and educators.
