Scenes from Stone Lab

2:17 pm, Fri May 15, 2020 – Everyone’s been missing the Lake Erie islands lately, so we’re looking back on some spring memories while we wait to be able to return

Everyone’s been missing the Lake Erie islands lately, and Stone Lab staff and friends are no exception. We’re looking back on some spring memories while we wait for end of the governor’s Stay At Home order and Ohio State’s guidance on programming.

Back in March, Stone Lab staff shared photos of putting the first boat of the season back in the water. The Stone II seemed to be quite happy about being back out on Lake Erie!

March also marked the end of an era for a Stone Lab landmark: the Needle’s Eye rock formation on the north side of Gibraltar Island succumbed to the elements.

Stone Lab alumni and friends quickly shared their favorite memories and photos of visiting this iconic island spot. Life on the Lake Erie coast always means change, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the good memories!

You can see more photos in the comments of the March 9 post on the Stone Lab Facebook page at facebook.com/stonelaboratory. There’s also a video view of Gibraltar Island’s new north side.

For the latest on events, Stone Lab tours and the Aquatic Visitors Center, keep an eye on ohioseagrant.osu.edu/visit. We’ll keep those pages as updated as possible to help you decide when it’s alright to come see us again in person. Stay safe and healthy out there!
