Tory Gabriel holds his bachelor's degree in wildlife biology and his master's degree in life science education from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He has served as a workshop instructor, laboratory assistant, and on fish sampling crews for the Ohio Sea Grant College Program and F.T. Stone Laboratory, The Ohio State University's biological field station on Lake Erie's Gibraltar Island. Tory currently is Ohio Sea Grant's Program Coordinator for Fisheries Extension Enhancement based at the Lake Erie Nature & Science Center in Bay Village.

Tory, an Eagle Scout who grew up in Lancaster, OH, currently resides in the Cleveland area. His hobbies include: fishing, hunting (deer and upland game), sports (especially Cleveland Browns and OSU football), SCUBA diving, swimming, hiking, and camping.
