Objectives
To prepare one climate and recreational guidebook for each of two of Lake Erie and its coastal areas: Western Lake Erie (Detroit to Sandusky) and Central Lake Erie (Sandusky to Erie).
Rationale
These publications will be of interest to those planning
recreational activities in the region (e.g. "where to" and/or "when to"). Information on hazards and precautions would be interspersed throughout the publication. Anticipated users are those recreating on the coastal and offshore areas of Lake Erie, and developing recreation facilities.
Methodology
The guidebooks will be descriptive of conditions, processes, and both natural and man-developed features of the coastal and offshore areas of Lake Erie. They will stress natural atmospheric and hydrospheric phenomena as they relate to
recreational users and developers of recreational facilities. Each will highlight opportunities for coastal tours, shoreline
vacations, and specific types of outings on both land and water.
Benefits & Accomplishments
Benefits:
The preparation of these guides has resulted is an excellent working relationship among NOAA agencies. They were produced by the Ohio Sea Grant Program at the Ohio State University in cooperation with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), U.S. Department of Commerce. Support and technical information was supplied by three branches of NOAA: 1. Office of Sea Grant, 2. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), and 3. Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL). The guide was written by Charles E. Herdendorf and Kurt Knebusch of Ohio Sea Grant, Stanley J. Bolsenga of GLERL and Richard DeAngelis of NODC.
