Objectives
To develop more fully the ecological databases including present and past biotic distributional patterns for western Lake Erie.
To analyze these data bases with special regard to modern concepts of island biogeography.
To identify areas for special emphasis of future research programs.
To analyze these data bases with special regard to modern concepts of island biogeography.
To identify areas for special emphasis of future research programs.
Rationale
This conference is the ninth in a series of colloquia sponsored by the College of Biological Sciences, The Ohio State University. 1985 marks the 90th year of biological instruction and/or research programs of the university in the western Lake Erie area and this colloquium is designed to reflect and build on that activity.
Methodology
Plenary sessions will feature invited lectures and panel discussions. Contributed papers and workshops; will address specific biotic groups and the factors which affect biotic distributional patterns.
Benefits & Accomplishments
The ninth Biosciences Colloquium of the College of Biological Sciences, The Ohio State University, was held May 28-31, 1985, in cooperation with Ohio Sea Grant Program, Ohio Biological Survey, Center for Lake Erie Area Research, F.T. Stone Laboratory, and Friends of Stone Laboratory. Plenary sessions featured invited lectures and panel discussions by national and regional authorities addressing the broad concepts of island biogeography applicable to the western Lake Erie region, as well as, the status of specific biotic (terrestrial and aquatic) groups and the factors which affect biotic distributional patterns in the region.
