Determine the mineralogical, textural and chemical character of the sand deposits in western Lake Erie.
Evaluate the suitability for using the sand for the glass industry.
Estimate the potential reserves in the sand body between Monroe, Michigan and Western Sister Island, Ohio in Western Lake Erie.
Evaluate the suitability for using the sand for the glass industry.
Estimate the potential reserves in the sand body between Monroe, Michigan and Western Sister Island, Ohio in Western Lake Erie.
Rationale
The project is expected to provide benefits to the people and industries surrounding western Lake Erie:
- Providing a low-cost large-volume supply of sand for the construction industry.
- Providing a supply of sand that can be beneficiated to the quality required by the glass industry in northwest Ohio. Although local supplies of sand were originally available, these are depleted and sand must be shipped to the area.
- Provide a low-cost supply of sand for beach replenishment.
