Workshops
Based on the Lab's treed, secluded, historic Gibraltar Island, during the two-day workshop students take water samples, analyze plankton, collect invertebrates - insects and others - seine for fish while wading waist deep, and trawl for fish from boats far from shore. They use microscopes, dissect fish, and measure water quality back inside.
They learn, says John Hageman, Stone Lab's manager and an OSU Extension educator with Ohio Sea Grant, that Lake Erie is "a very vibrant ecosystem with an active, full plankton community and many fish and bird species."
