Beth Wallace serves as the Curriculum Coordinator for the Ohio Sea Grant College Program and Stone Laboratory. She works with The Ohio State University to set up the Stone Lab summer program and assists students with enrolling in their island learning experience.
Her first time at Gibraltar Island was, in fifth grade, with Hilliard City Schools as part of the Stone Lab science field trip program. She later chose to major in Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology at Ohio State. She had the opportunity in 2004 to return to the island to study Limnology, focusing on benthic invertebrates, in particular, the quagga mussel.
She went on to become an Environmental Educator aboard the school ship Inland Seas and on Orcas Island. She served for a year in AmeriCorps at Northwestern Michigan College and discovered her desire to return to work in higher education. In late 2016, she earned a Masters of Public Administration from Central Michigan University.
Upon returning to Ohio in 2017, she worked at the Ohio State University Newark campus as an Academic Advisor and helped facilitate the OSU Newark, Fall Break field trip to Stone Lab with Newark students. Stone Lab has been a part of her life for over 25 years and she believes in experiential learning. When not in the office, she is a certified yoga instructor and teaches Yoga 2 for Ohio State. She also loves to swim, paint, travel and spend time with friends and family.
