Arrival, Check-In and Departure
Getting to Stone Lab
You will need to arrange ferry transportation to South Bass Island and also from the ferry docks on South Bass Island to OSU’s Bayview Office.
To get to South Bass Island, you can take either the Miller Boat Line or Jet Express Ferry. The Miller Ferry departs from Catawba Point to the southern tip of South Bass Island. Private vehicles may be taken to the island via this ferry, but delays are likely during tourist season (May-September). We highly recommend be a walk on passenger. Jet Express provides passenger-only service from Port Clinton to downtown Put-in-Bay. The Put-in-Bay website has information on island transportation options.
You are responsible for all ground transportation to and from OSU’s Bayview Office; the labs main administrative office. The Bayview Office is just up the hill from where our transport vessels are docked. These OSU operated vessels will transport you to Gibraltar Island. Gibraltar Island is where the dorm, classrooms, and dining hall are located.
Arrival
One-, four- and six-week students should arrive at OSU’s Bayview Office on South Bass Island between 1:00-3:00pm on Monday. Ohio State vessels will transport students to Gibraltar Island on the half-hour. Check ferry schedule (Miller and Jet Express) to ensure you can meet these transport times.
Workshop arrival times will be added soon.
Check-in and dorm key assignments will take place in the dining hall on Gibraltar Island.
Departure
All departing students are required to be off Gibraltar Island by 5pm on the date class ends.
Transportation via an Ohio State vessel will be provided from Gibraltar to South Bass Island every hour from 10am to 1pm on the date the class ends. You are responsible for transporation from OSU’s Bayview Office to the Miller Ferry or Jet Express docks.
