Arrival and Check-in

Information about arrival and check-in for students at Stone Lab, the Ohio State University's island campus on Lake Erie

Arrival, Registration and Departure

Note: Please pay special attention to sections highlighted in blue, as these have been updated with new information for 2017.

Getting to Stone Lab

You will need to arrange transportation to South Bass Island and from the ferry dock on South Bass Island to our Research Dock. Join the Stone Lab Summer 2017 Facebook Group to coordinate with students who will be attending classes beginning on the same date as yours if you would like to set up a carpool to the ferry dock on the mainland or share transportation from the ferry dock on South Bass Island to our Research Dock.

To get to South Bass Island, you can take either the Miller Boat Line or Jet Express Ferry. Miller is an 18-minute trip and departs from Catawba Point to the southern tip of South Bass Island. Private vehicles may be taken to the island via this ferry, but delays are likely during tourist season (May-September). Jet Express provides 25-minute passenger-only service from Port Clinton and Sandusky to downtown Put-in-Bay.

You are responsible for all ground transportation to and from the Stone Lab Research Dock from the Miller Ferry or Jet Express docks. The Put-in-Bay website has information on island transportation options.
