All donations made to the Friends of Stone Laboratory (FOSL) are welcome. A more detailed description of membership levels is available here

A donation to any fund qualifies the donor as a member of the Friends of Stone Laboratory (FOSL). A more detailed description of membership levels is available on the FOSL page.

Donors will notice that some funds allow a choice between Current Use and Principal:

funds are not added to the Principal and are immediately available for the intended use.
Principal
The principal
is never spent; the interest from the Principal is used for the intended purpose of the endowment thereby guaranteeing expenditures from the endowment in perpetuity.

F.T. Stone Laboratory Scholarship Endowment


Provides scholarships for undergraduate and/or graduate students, who have demonstrated academic excellence and need for financial assistance to study at Stone Lab.

General Funds

Stone Lab Aquatic Visitors Center Fund


Fund used to support vital public Lake Erie outreach and education programs through the Ohio Sea Grant Aquatic Visitors Center.

Cooke Castle Restoration Fund


Fund used for the preservation and restoration of Jay Cooke’s 1864 summer residence on Gibraltar Island. Acquired by Ohio State University in 1925 it is now listed on the National Registry of Historic Landmarks.

John H. Dunlap, Jr. Endowment


Fund used to support education, outreach, and development programs at Stone Lab that will ultimately improve the Lake Erie ecosystem and enhance economic development.

Friends of Stone Lab Fund


Fund used by our support organization to promote education and outreach at Stone Lab.

Ohio Sea Grant Advisory Service


Supports worthy projects enhancing the benefits to the public and to the University of the Ohio Sea Grant Program.

Stone Lab / Sea Grant Annual Fund


Fund used to support the annual needs of Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab.

F.T. Stone Lab Sustaining Endowment


Fund used to enrich the research, teaching, and service programs and facilities at Stone Lab.

Karen A. Jennings Facility and Instructional Support Endowment


Fund used to build or renovate University faculty and staff island housing, purchase scientific equipment for educational purposes, transportation costs for educational purposes, and other facility improvements relating to Stone Lab instructional programs.

The Charles R. and Blanche M. Morin Education and Research Endowment


Fund used to support education and research at the Franz Theodore Stone Laboratory, including scholarships, fellowships, and purchase of equipment and supplies/services that support the education and research mission of the laboratory.

William E. Fletcher Stone Lab Support Fund


Fund used to sustain and enrich the research, teaching, outreach programs and facilities of the Franz Theodore Stone Laboratory. notextile.

Dr. Jeff Reutter Stone Lab Endowment


Fund used to support scholarships, research experience for the undergrad program, equipment for research and education, and to solicit additional support from other sources.

Scholarship Funds

Wilbert “Spark” Baumler Memorial Scholarship Endowment


Fund used to provide financial assistance to students attending Stone Lab with first preference to studying fisheries and second preference to Lake Erie aquatic sciences.

Arley Duff Blankenship Memorial Endowment


Fund used to provide financial assistance to students taking introductory courses at Stone Lab with first preference to students from Appalachia.

V. Ray Frederick Memorial Scholarship Endowment


Fund used to provide financial assistance to students attending Stone Lab with first preference to non-Ohio State students or those from out-of-state. and/or grad students who have demonstrated academic excellence and/or need for financial assistance.

Kelly Prochazka Memorial Scholarship Endowment


Fund used to provide financial assistance to high school students taking introductory courses at Stone Lab with first preference to students from Elyria High School and second preference to students from Lorain County.

A. Jackson and Sally Koepp Smith Scholarship Endowment


Provides scholarships for undergraduate and/or graduate students who have demonstrated academic excellence and/or need for financial assistance to study at Stone Lab.

F.T. Stone Laboratory Scholarship Endowment


Provides scholarships for undergraduate and/or graduate students, who have demonstrated academic excellence and need for financial assistance to study at Stone Lab.

Stone Laboratory Tuition Reduction Endowment


Fund used to reduce the cost of tuition for all students attending Stone Lab.

The Wiczulis Family Stone Lab Scholarship Endowment


Fund used to support at least one scholarship for undergraduate or graduate level students pursuing an education at Stone Lab. First preference for student(s) from Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

James T. Addis and Ann E. Addis Scholarship Fund


Provides financial need scholarships to undergraduate or graduate students who are studying at Stone Lab with preference to participants in student organizations, leadership programs, judging teams, research competitions, or conferences.

The Kay and Norm Drake Scholarship Fund


Fund used to provide one or more scholarships to students who are studying at the Franz T. Stone Laboratory, Put-In-Bay, Ohio.

The Drs. Thomas J. and Mary Beth Hall Stone Laboratory Scholarship for the Newark Campus


Ohio State Newark students studying at Stone Laboratory. To be awarded as last-dollar grants of up to $500 to students who have exhausted their resources.

Dr. William T. Schultz and Ms. Leslie A. Floyd Stone Lab Endowment


Supports graduate students who are studying at Stone Laboratory. Expenditures may include, but are not limited to tuition and fees, research, and travel. If Stone Lab ever ceases to exist, supports graduate students who are enrolled in College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The purpose of this pending endowment is subject to change until the fund is formally approved as an endowment. Prior to formal approval, the pending endowment may be converted to a current-use fund.

Kennie and Ardella Russell Stone Lab Scholarship Fund


Established by Pamela A. Russell. The Fund provides one or more scholarship(s) to undergraduate students who are enrolled in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (“College”) and are studying at the Franz Theodore Stone Laboratory.

Research and Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Funds

John L. Crites Research Fellowship Endowment


Fund used to support research fellowships for scholarly research work at Stone Lab.

The Thomas Huxley Langlois Research Fellowship Endowment


Fund used to support research fellowships for scholarly research work at Stone Lab.

Fund used to support research and related expenses at Stone Lab.

Teaching Funds

Fortner Teacher Enhancement Scholarship Endowment


Fund used to provide scholarships for teachers in environmental science education and Great Lakes studies at Stone Lab.

F.T. Stone Laboratory Visiting Professor Endowment


Fund used to provide for one or more visiting professorships to enrich the instructional programs at Stone Lab.

Ronald L. Stuckey Stone Laboratory Teaching Endowment


Fund used to support faculty teaching with preference to plant science courses at Stone Lab.

Donation of Goods or Services

If you are interested in donating goods (equipment or furniture) to Stone Lab, please contact Bryan Ford to make arrangements. While we appreciate all support, our staff needs to ensure that the items will be used before being able to accept these donations.


Estate Planning & Planned Gifts

Remember Stone Lab and Ohio Sea Grant in your estate. These are called “planned gifts” and gifts of any amount make the donor part of the Gibraltar Legacy Club and Ohio State University’s Neil Legacy Society.
