Stone Laboratory Announces Classes for Summer 2026

12:00 pm, Sun December 14, 2025 – Stone Lab, The Ohio State University’s island campus on Lake Erie, offers a wide array of hands-on courses and workshops

PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio Stone Laboratory, The Ohio State University’s island campus on Lake Erie, has announced its summer 2026 schedule of courses and workshops for high school students, college students, teachers, and professionals. Thanks to Stone Lab’s generous donors, all students enrolled in for-credit Stone Lab courses this coming summer will receive a 50% discount for room and meal fees.

Each year, Stone Lab offers a wide array of hands-on courses and workshops as part of Ohio State’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. Introductory courses are open to advanced high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have taken biology, and college undergraduates.

Advanced courses are perfect for science majors looking to advance their studies. Students can take one week courses for two credit hours, four- week courses for 3 credit hours, or six-week courses for four credit hours. Courses are transferable to many universities for credit.

Workshops are also available for working professionals and job seekers looking for continuing education and professional development opportunities to build their resumes.

Many previously offered courses and workshops are returning next summer, including the week-long Lake Erie Sport Fishing course, in which students can learn about the techniques and equipment of sport fishing with daily angling trips, and Ecology, an advanced six-week, four credit hour course. In addition to returning courses, a new three-day workshop, Introduction to North America’s Crayfish, has been added.

A full list of course offerings is available at go.osu.edu/SLcourses, and course applications open on January 1, 2026.

Stone Lab offers scholarships for students taking credited courses. Scholarship applications will open in January 1, 2026, and those interested in scholarship consideration must submit their applications by February 15 (Ohio State students) or March 31 (Non-Ohio State college and high school students). Scholarship consideration is open to anyone enrolled in a for-credit course.
